When sheriffs escorted him into court, he smiled at the land protectors filling the room and said: “A full house.”The 79-year-old has fought the hydro project at Muskrat Falls for years. Nalcor alleges Learning trespassed on its property on June 25 and 26. Then blocked traffic entering the main gate at the Muskrat Falls site on July 18.Murphy said there’s a difference between protesting and breaking the law. He urged Learning to sign the undertaking, saying he didn’t want to send him back to jail.“I don’t want to sit there either,” said Learning. “But there’s no choice for me here. I’m not giving up my fight.”Flowers consulted with her St. John’s lawyer Mark Gruchy who asked the court for the option of house arrest in lieu of jail time. Murphy agreed. Flowers has to abide by an undertaking she previously signed in November 2016.The judge then offered the same option to Learning. The court took a short recess so Learning could consult with his partner Roberta Benefield and lawyer Mark Gruchy.(Eldred Davis is hugged by a supporter after court in Goose Bay. “I feel I have no choice, for my sanity…my health,” he said. Fifty land protectors are facing civil charges.Thirty-seven people are also facing criminal charges related to protests at Muskrat Falls. The hydro project has been criticized for its impacts on the environment, skyrocketing costs now over-budget at $12-billion, and a lack of consultation.Contact Trina here: troache@aptn.calast_img read more

There was contentious debate on the motive for the Freedom of Information or FOI motion; the readiness of the TCI with human and other resources to support an actual FOI ordinance; argument that a Freedom of Information law was not a part of the PNP Manifesto promise, said the Premier; that the FOI would further weigh down the PNP Administration’s legislative agenda and a reminder about the constitutional responsibility to have the law, at some point, enacted. The governor’s appointed member female, Hon Lillian Missick chided the governing side for what she called, ‘emotional’ comments about the Motion brought, explaining that the TCI parliament is constitutionally obligated to establish the law so, in her view, there was no need for the hot rejection of the idea. Hon. Missick admits she would like to see first, that the country has the infrastructure to support the demands for information she believes the legislation will create. There were three abstentions including the Premier; six nay votes including most of the PNP frontbenchers, who voted ‘no’ and nine Members voted ‘yes’ to push the motion forward. All PDM members and the Governor’s female member voted in favor of drafting legislation for a Freedom of Information Ordinance. last_img read more

Alex Sandro is almost back, but to immediately put him on the synthetic pitch seemed risky. He will be ready for Saturday.“Chiellini I will leave to rest because on the plastic he can have problems. first_img Share your voice YouTube says it recognizes that “minors could be at risk of online or offline exploitation.” Seth Rosenblatt/CNET YouTube’s recommendation system enables people who leer at videos of children in bathing suits to more easily find other videos that could offer pedophiliac appeal, according to a study reported Monday by The New York Times. YouTube said it has expanded its efforts from earlier this year to limit recommendations of “borderline content” to include videos featuring minors in risky situations, YouTube said in a blog post Monday. “While the content itself does not violate our policies, we recognize the minors could be at risk of online or offline exploitation,” Google-owned YouTube said. “We’ve already applied these changes to tens of millions of videos across YouTube.”The company referred CNET to the blog post when asked for comment on the study. The study comes after YouTube disabled comments in February on videos featuring minors. That move followed reports about an subculture of posting comments on YouTube videos of children that could be construed in a sexualized way; the comments include time-stamp links that would take viewers to similar videos at other sexually suggestive moments. YouTube’s algorithm played a role in that scandal as well: Once somebody happened upon these video and clicked one of the comment links, the sidebar of recommended videos would surface many others like it. The latest study, from researchers at Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society, was conducted after Google removed comments from videos with minors. The study found that YouTube’s automatic video-recommendation system would surface otherwise innocuous home movies after a user watched sexually themed content. It resulted in a library of videos that sexualizes children, according to researchers in the report. Digital Media YouTube Tags Comment 1last_img read more
