first_img Jack Wilshere 1 Arsenal have confirmed midfielder Jack Wilshere will undergo surgery and is facing a further three months out.The 23-year-old has been troubled with various injuries throughout his career and has not featured for the Gunners this season after suffering a harline fracture to his left leg.Arsene Wenger had been hoping he would return after the recent international break. But the England international has not recovered as expected and has now been told he requires an operation that is likely to rule him out until Christmas.“Due to a slow healing response from a fracture suffered in August, the club can confirm that Jack Wilshere is to undergo an operation to his left fibula,” read an Arsenal statement.“The decision to intervene has been taken quickly after regular reviews by specialists, who feel that Jack’s scans show that the healing process is not progressing as well as expected.“Jack will have surgery in London in the forthcoming days. This will involve inserting a small plate in his left fibula. Jack is likely to be out for approximately three months.“Everyone at the club wishes Jack well with his rehabilitation.”It is another devastating blow for Wilshere, who was initially only expected to be sidelined for a few weeks after suffering the injury in pre-season training. He made just 14 Premier League appearances last season with an ankle problem and only returned to action in May.He is now facing another extended spell on the sidelines and will miss a host of games for Arsenal, as well as England’s remaining European Championship qualifiers.last_img read more

first_imgHere’s the top transfer-related stories in Monday’s newspapers…Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi is open to a move to England after falling foul of the tax authorities in Spain. But the deal he wants would see him paid £18m a year AFTER tax, meaning a weekly wage of £600,000 before deductions. Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal are all keen on Messi but he is understood to be in favour of moving to London, with the Gunners his preferred option if he quits Barcelona. (Daily Star)Arsenal are ready to offer Mesut Ozil a new contract. The Germany World Cup winner’s deal has two years to run from the end of the season. But his form has been so impressive that the club want to keep him at the Emirates until at least 2019. (Daily Mirror)Real Madrid are willing to let Cristiano Ronaldo leave the club — if they can recoup the £80million they paid for him. The La Liga giants paid the whopping fee six years ago and, despite his advancing years, club execs know Europe’s elite will be lining up to splash the cash on the three-time Ballon d’Or winner. The news will put Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea — who are both keen to land him — on red alert. (The Sun)Real Madrid want a new number nine and are hoping to sign Robert Lewandowski, according to the Bayern Munich star’s own agent. (Marca)Chelsea flop Radamel Falcao will be offered a January escape route to Valencia. The Spanish giants have made enquiries to Falcao’s representatives and have the cash to the deal. first_imgFormer Tottenham star David Ginola has dismissed any qualms about Dele Alli’s temperament and insists the midfielder must play for England at Euro 2016.Alli has been one of the standout performers of the season so far with his incredible strike against Crystal Palace a leading contender for goal of the season. However, at only 19-years-old there has been debate as to whether he should be starting for England this summer so quickly after his meteoric rise from League One MK Dons. But Ginola believes he absolutely must. “He needs to play [at the Euros]. He is a fantastic player,” Ginola told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.“You think about waiting for him to get more experience, I don’t think so, he will get that with his club.“He is going to have a great European Championships and a great end of the season for Spurs.“He is the future of English football and with his feet he is doing things that others can only dream of.”Alli was lucky not to see red for an apparent kick out during Thursday night’s Europa League draw with Fiorentina. The incident led to Mauricio Pochettino saying the Englishman still has a lot to learn, and while Ginola agrees, the former France international insists many of the game’s greats all had an aggressive streak.“You have to look at the overall picture of the player,” Ginola added. “He has some downsides and this is probably one of his only weaknesses in the game: having some bad gestures on the football pitch.“But you mention players like David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane, a lot of the great players have had a temper on the pitch.“Alli will get rid of that in a few months’ time. It will be history in a few years.“He is very, very talented and you cannot be perfect at the age of 20, you still have plenty to learn and he is still in the learning process.”last_img read more

first_img AD Quality Auto 360p 720p 1080p Top articles1/5READ MOREGame Center: Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs, Sunday, 10 a.m.The problem is not the air quality in Torrance, but the fact that Palomar, which is located in San Marcos, could not practice and did not want to go ahead with the game. “Palomar wasn’t able to practice during the week, and I understand that,” Featherstone said. “Other teams practiced in gymnasiums – you don’t really go that hard in practice this time of year anyway – I’m not mad. We just really wanted to play them.” The Palomar campus has been closed all week because of wildfires and poor air conditions. Featherstone said he’s upset the California Community College Athletic Association’s Commission on Athletics has not come up with a solution to get the game rescheduled. “We were in limbo all week, waiting to find out what was happening,” Featherstone said. “The COA has been dragging its heels.” The El Camino-Palomar game was a crucial Mission Conference American Division tilt between a pair of 6-1 teams, but it appears as though it could be canceled all together. From staff reports El Camino College’s football game against Palomar on Saturday has been postponed due to the Southern California wildfires, El Camino coach John Featherstone said Thursday. While many prep football games in other regions have been postponed or canceled, there appears to be only one South Bay cancellation – Saturday’s Animo at Midway Baptist game. While Animo’s cancellation was expected because of the location and conditions in the San Diego area, the El Camino postponement came as a surprise to Featherstone. “We may wind up playing nine regular-season games instead of 10,” Featherstone said. “We’re already game-planning for Orange Coast next week.” Animo athletic director Sergio Medrano said there won’t be a makeup game for Animo-Midway Baptist. Kristin Coleman of Peninsula shot a 2-under-par 71 to win the Bay League individual title at Harding Golf Course. Her sister, Jenny Coleman, took second with a 72.
