first_imgCarroll says Newcastle deserved win over Man Utdby Paul Vegas18 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveAndy Carroll says Newcastle United deserved their win over Manchester United.Debutant Matty Longstaff scored the only goal of the game.Carroll said, “We’re buzzing! I think we deserved it – we were the better team throughout. You couldn’t write Matty’s goal. It’s his first Premier League game alongside his brother against Man United at home and he’s scored the winner. You can’t ask for any better and I’m absolutely delighted for him along with the rest of the lads.“The lads are buzzing for him. Matty’s a great lad who has worked hard. He’s deserved his start today and kept his head down. He’s grafted since I’ve been here and he deserved his chance and taken it with both hands.“I think it just shows what we have got in the squad. It was terrible last week and we’ve bounced straight back. We’ve worked very hard all week in training, and it has shown today as we dominated the game.“It’s important to show what we are about after last week. When you play a top team like (Manchester) United, it’s always going to be a tough game but when you haven’t won at home and you’re struggling, like last week, I think it’s a great win all round.“The morale in the dressing room right now is great and we are buzzing heading into the international break. It’s nice that we can celebrate for a couple of weeks and it eases the pressure on us. It’s good going into the international break with a win rather than a defeat!” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

first_imgMumbai/New Delhi: To stave off any haircut in Jet Airways, the lenders of the company have already started approaching prospective investors, informed sources said on Friday. Accordingly, the lenders led by the State Bank of India (SBI) have approached various prospective buyers from conglomerates to a global private equity firm for sale of their stake in the financially challenged airline. Sources said that Tata Group, TPG Capital and Delta-Air France-KLM are among the companies approached by the lenders. When contacted, a Tata Group spokesperson, however, said: “We don’t comment on market speculation.” Also Read – Thermal coal import may surpass 200 MT this fiscal”Lenders are very serious about their exposure to Jet and how to come out of the situation. They may have given interim relief but there is no surety that the company won’t go into the IBC (Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code) process,” a source close to the development said. Corroborating the first source, another industry insider said: “Initial feelers have been sent. This is a standard procedure but talks are in a preliminary stage. The lenders are scouting for companies that can not only give them an exit but also sustain the size of the airline. Thus far, an Indian diversified conglomerate, global PE fund house and even other global airline companies have been approached through various channels.”last_img read more

first_imgLondon: Facebook has chosen London as the centre for the global roll-out of WhatsApp pay, before the social media giant launches its digital payments service on the mobile messaging platform in India, according to a media report. WhatsApp, which has1.5 billion users globally, would hire nearly 100 people in London to focus on the digital payments service and additional operations staff would be hired in Dublin, the Financial Times reported. Facebook said it chose the UK, where WhatsApp is far more popular than the US, because it attracts a multicultural workforce from many of the countries where WhatsApp is widely used, such as India, the report said. Out of WhatsApp user base of 1.5 billion people, more than 200 million people are in India — the single largest market for the popular American messaging platform. “WhatsApp is a truly global service and these teams will help us provide WhatsApp payments and other great features for our users everywhere,” Matthew Idema, WhatsApp’s Chief Operating Officer, was quoted as saying. WhatsApp has nearly 400 employees globally. While its most popular markets are India, Brazil, Indonesia and Mexico, it has not established a local office anywhere until late last year, when it hired an India head in time for the country’s elections. Last month, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company is actively working on to launch WhatsApp Pay in India. “We have a test that is running in India for WhatsApp now, we’re hoping to launch in several other countries at some point, but I don’t want to put a timeframe on that here, but it’s something that we’re actively working on,” he said during an earnings call with analysts. Almost one million people tested WhatsApp Pay in India to send money to each other in a simple and secure way. In April, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) came out with a circular regarding data localisation policy for payment system providers. Generally, data localisation refers to storing data within India. The company on May 3 told the Supreme Court that it would comply with the Reserve Bank of India’s data localisation norms before launching the full payments service in the country.last_img read more

Coach Thad Matta’s starting five, laden with incumbent veterans and arguably the best freshman in the nation, doesn’t have room for Aaron Craft — a point guard who arguably could start for any other team in the country. That doesn’t mean the smallest player in the seven-man rotation doesn’t get his playtime. Averaging 28 minutes per game, Craft is fifth on the team, ahead of starting forward Dallas Lauderdale. Only the other four usual starters, junior guard William Buford, freshman forward Jared Sullinger, senior forward David Lighty and senior guard Jon Diebler play more than the freshman. He is the rotation’s only true point guard — so, what’s keeping him from starting? Barring injury, it doesn’t look like he will be slotted into the starting lineup anytime soon. Combined, the team’s four veteran starters have played 485 games, starting in 390 of them. It’s that experience which contributes largely to Matta’s thinking when deciding whom to start each game. “With who we’re starting, I love the experience that we have,” Matta said. “You’ve got four guys out there that have started a lot of games in the scarlet and gray. You’ve got a pretty good freshman in Jared, and I’ve been pretty pleased with how we’ve started a majority of our games this season.” Though he averages a pedestrian 6.8 points per game, Craft leads the team in assists, averaging 4.8, and is the team’s second most efficient offensive perimeter player. Only Diebler’s 49.5 percent from the field is better than Craft’s 49 percent. Craft also leads the team in turnovers. His 50 on the season are 10 more than Buford’s 40 while averaging 2.3 per game. Despite those giveaways, the team’s veterans consider Craft an asset. “He’s a perfect fit for us,” Lighty said. “He comes in and runs the offense and runs the team, and plays defense at the highest level I’ve seen for a freshman in college basketball.” But Craft deflects the individual praise to his team’s defense as a whole. “We’ll have times when some people play great individual defense, but at the same time it’s five guys out there. We, all five, need to be connected, and when one person doesn’t do the thing they’re supposed to, then the whole defense breaks down,” Craft said. “It doesn’t matter how great of defense you play as an individual.” Craft is a victim of circumstance when it comes to starting for this version of the Buckeyes. If he were to replace Lauderdale in the starting lineup, that would leave Sullinger as the only capable big man on the floor. It’s unlikely he would replace Diebler or Lighty either, simply because Diebler is the team’s best shooter and Matta regards Lighty as the nation’s top defender. That would leave Buford as the lone candidate to take a seat to Craft, but the junior is the team’s second-leading scorer, averaging 13.5 points per game. One thing is certain: Starting or not, Craft is gaining valuable experience in his first year as a Buckeye. “Aaron’s so unique that he would learn if he was starting (or) if he was coming off the bench, and it’s just sort of who he is,” Matta said. “I haven’t coached a lot of guys like him that think at the level that he thinks, especially at his age, and (he) really wants to understand and know everything that’s going to happen or could happen.” read more

The front fascia has an illuminated grille surround, and the main headlights are housed in individual blocks of glass. They’re concerned about range, the recharging network and whether electric cars will still be dynamic and engaging to drive,” said Gregory Guillaume, Kia’s vice president of design, in a statement. “So, when we first started thinking about this concept and imagining what its role would be, we knew that the best way to answer those questions and address those concerns was by approaching electrification purely from an emotional point of view.”Answering questions by — *checks notes* — not answering them? That move followed reports about an subculture of posting comments on YouTube videos of children that could be construed in a sexualized way; the comments include time-stamp links that would take viewers to similar videos at other sexually suggestive moments. YouTube’s algorithm played a role in that scandal as well: Once somebody happened upon these video and clicked one of the comment links, the sidebar of recommended videos would surface many others like it. The latest study, from researchers at Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society, was conducted after Google removed comments from videos with minors. The study found that YouTube’s automatic video-recommendation system would surface otherwise innocuous home movies after a user watched sexually themed content. It resulted in a library of videos that sexualizes children, according to researchers in the report. Digital Media YouTube Tags Comment 1last_img read more

(Courtesy photo)Activist and Baltimore native DeRay Mckesson surprised many Wednesday evening when he filed to run for mayor of the city of Baltimore. The last-minute move made him the 30th candidate in an already crowded mayoral race.A member of the Black Lives Matter movement, Mckesson has made a name for himself as an outspoken advocate against police brutality. He recently appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” “Baltimore is, and has always been, a city of promise and possibility,” read a statement posted on the funding website Crowdpac. “If we are to reach that promise and possibility we cannot rely on traditional pathways to politics and the traditional politicians who walk those paths. We have seen and lived through enough lofty promises and vague plans. We must demand more from our leaders and local government.”By Thursday afternoon, Mckesson had raised over $30,000 toward a posted $250,000 goal.In a long post on Medium.com, McKesson wrote, “I am running to be the 50th Mayor of Baltimore in order to usher our city into an era where the government is accountable to its people and is aggressively innovative in how it identifies and solves its problems. We can build a Baltimore where more and more people want to live and work, and where everyone can thrive. It is true that I am a non-traditional candidate — I am not a former Mayor, City Councilman, state legislator, philanthropist or the son of a well-connected family. Of course, that is also one of the creepiest things about robots too. You never know what is going to be a robot these days. There are people shaped robots, there are robots that are designed to explore the depths of space. That bird that you see on the building. It could be a robot too. Festo is a robotics company that seems to enjoy making bots that are shaped like animals. They have previously created both a robotic elephants trunk that is sensitive enough to grab items, and a set of robot penguins that have learned to avoid each other. Who knows, maybe this remote controlled gull will be the spy bot of the future. One, slightly more pragmatic goal may be to co-opt the wing technology to create what are known as ‘stroke wing generators’, which can use this same motion in order to generate power from water. So, this little bird may actually be green.center_img © 2010 PhysOrg.com The SmartBird design is based on a real life bird, a herring gull, who is able to take off, with the help of an on board motor. Then the wings begin to flap. Once they get beating at the right speed, the wings begin to imitate the way that real birds fly. The front edge of the wing twists, and generates thrust, and the tail acts the same way that a rudder would, steering the bird in different directions. He maintained that the WBPCB has not achieved the prescribed standards and admitted that they have much work to do.”As far as water pollution is concerned, the earlier belief of controlling the water flowing into the river has now undergone transformation as letting water flow into rivers is needed. first_imgIt is said that the famous Chinese pilgrim and explorer Huen Tsang, while documenting his 15 years of stay in India, observed that Indians were very intelligent, healthy and took a lot of care of their diet. He mentions that Indians are healthier and possess better intellect due to their usage of fruits in their diet which is much more in comparison to other societies. Whereas that might be contested, there is no getting away from the fact that fruits, both fresh and dried have been eaten since mankind’s earliest days and have been held in extremely high esteem. India has always prided itself as being among the few countries where there are a variety of fruits available throughout the year. Also Read – Add new books to your shelfCulinary Uses of Fruits Since time immemorial, fruits have formed an important part of the culinary development of cuisines all across the world. In India, fruits and food items containing fruits have been traditionally eaten for fasting and at festivals. Apart from that, the fact that most fruits are perishable, many of those were used at various stages of ripening such as a mango for mango pickle, jam, mango leather, mango juice etc. These days there is a trend of using fruits for many savoury dishes to primarily provide the dish with a contrasting flavour, texture, and lightness. Also Read – Over 2 hours screen time daily will make your kids impulsiveWhereas it is normally perceived that consuming fresh fruit is best but the cooking of certain fruits such as oranges, apples and pineapple etc dramatically intensify the inherent flavours and create interesting textures. Different methods Although most fruits can be cooked in one way or the other, most ripe fruits should be cooked quickly and at high heat to preserve and intensify flavour while at the same time retain the texture and firmness. Apples, apricots, cherries, plums, and pears are great fruits to roast, grill or broil and serve as a part of a salad or a main course. To make jams, sauces, and compotes, the fruits have to be cooked on a lower heat for a far longer time. It is true that most fruits and vegetables lose some part of their nutritional components when cooked, but indeed cooked fruits have a charm of their own and also is a great way to increase their shelf life. Some Tips Most fruits pair really well with spices such as cinnamon, star anise, and nutmeg etc. It is a good idea to include these while cooking fruits. Try and use a minimum quantity of added sugar, most ripe fruits are sweet enough and any added sugar takes away their health benefits. Rum, wine, various fruit liquors, and brandies are also excellent flavour enhancers for fresh fruits, especially the fruits that are served in a semi-liquid form such as compotes and stewed fruits. Recently, Stack Overflow, a forum for computer programmers, conducted its seventh annual Developer Survey. The company polled more than 64,000 developers in nearly 200 countries, posing a variety of benign questions such as education level and career satisfaction before dropping the big ask: “How do you pronounce ‘GIF’?”Sixty-five percent of respondents globally went with the hard “g,” while 26 percent reported they say it with a soft “g.”As the Economist points out, the hard “g” is more prevalent in languages around the word. Spanish and Finnish don’t have any native words with the soft “g,” while most dialects of Arabic are hard “g”-free. The Stack Overflow survey results reflect that discrepancy: People in countries where the hard “g” is more common make up 45 percent of the world’s population, but a disproportionate 79 percent of survey respondents were from those countries. Even when answers were weighted based on population, however, the hard “g” prevailed 44 percent to 32 percent globally.Related: The Origin of the Internet’s Most Famous Dumpster FireIf you’re wondering why those percentages don’t add up to 100, one reason is because some people enunciate all three letters, like an acronym. Half of respondents from China and 70 percent from South Korea say GIF in this way.Or, if all of this ambiguity makes you too anxious, you can always call a GIF by its full name: “Graphics Interchange Format.” Free Webinar | Sept 5: Tips and Tools for Making Progress Toward Important Goals 3 min readcenter_img Attend this free webinar and learn how you can maximize efficiency while getting the most critical things done right.
