When redesigning a well-loved playground on the Halifax waterfront, who better to ask than children? Waterfront Development Corporation Limited is hosting a fun, interactive design consultation session for children ages four to ten on Saturday, Feb. 27. “This is a wonderful opportunity to combine the important elements of project consultation with the energy and ideas of children,” said Colin MacLean, president and CEO, Waterfront Development Corporation Ltd. About 25 spaces are available and children from all communities are encouraged to attend. Waterfront Development Corporation Ltd. is working with community partners, the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and Halifax Regional Municipality on the project. It will be overseen by local company Outside Planning and Design Studio. The playground, about 25 years old, is located near the museum. The project is part of the corporation’s ongoing commitment to revitalize and reinvest in the waterfront. Construction is expected to begin in June after design plans, including children’s feedback, are finalized. The playground will be wooden in structure incorporating a nautical theme. The session will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., starting with an interactive tour of the museum. After the tour, participants will gather in small, facilitated groups to colour, mold and create their vision of the perfect waterfront playground from ships to marine life. There is no fee to sign up, but parents must register their child before Friday, Feb. 19. Space is limited. For more information or to register, call 902-422-6591 or e-mail [email protected] .
