BU outgained the Bulldogs 369-249 and posted a 24-14 first downs advantage.”I give Butler a lot of credit in the second half. They made all the plays they had to and took care of the ball,” said head coach Rick Fox.Butler’s Matt Shiltz threw for 227 yards with two touchdowns, completing 19-of-28 and also added a team-high 60 yards rushing.”He is a great player. He made some great runs, some third and fourth down conversions and he drilled it in there a few plays and put it right where it needed it to be,” said Fox about Shiltz.Drake’s Cody Thibault completed 16-of-27 for 175 yards with one touchdown and an interception. Michael Hudson caught five passes for 59 yards and a touchdown, while Eric Saubert added 58 yards receiving on five receptions. Sophomore Tyler Updegraff led the Bulldog running game with a career-high 79 yards rushing.Defensively, fifth-year senior John Hugunin tallied a game-high 12 tackles (10 solo) and recovered a fumble.Drake took advantage of two Butler fumbles to earn a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter. The first Butler miscue led to a 30-yard field goal by Josh Lee to put DU up 3-0 with 3:11 left in the opening quarter. Then with six seconds left in the first quarter Drake managed to recover another loose ball, which led to an 18-yard touchdown pass from Thibault to Hudson.Butler then used a 13-play 67-yard drive that took nearly seven minutes, which resulted in 34-yard field goal by Jonath Treloar for a halftime score of 10-3.Shiltz orchestrated another long drive, going 65 yards on 15 plays, on the opening drive of the second half, which was capped off by a one-yard touchdown pass to Zach Wolfe to tie the game up at 10.Drake answered with a 15-play scoring drive of its own, as Lee made is second 30-yard field goal of the game to put Drake back on top, 13-10 with 21 seconds left in the third quarter.Butler then only needed two plays to take its first lead of the game, 17-13. Shiltz completed a 56-yard pass to John Hall on the first play of the drive. Then on the very next play to begin the fourth quarter, Shiltz connected with Marque Martin-Hayes for a 14-yard touchdown pass.On Butler’s next possession, the Bulldogs held on to the ball for nearly nine minutes and ran 17 plays to take a seven-point lead, 20-13, on a 27-yard field goal by Treloar with 3:54 left to play.On Drake’s ensuing possession, the Bulldogs managed to get into Butler territory but an interception by BU’s Isaak Newhouse halted Drake’s chance to tie it up.Butler then used a couple of first downs to let the clock wind down for the final score of 20-13.The Bulldogs return to Drake Stadium on Nov. 21 to host Dayton for the final game of the 2015 season.Print Friendly Version Stats John Bloss Full Schedule Roster Next Game:last_img
