first_imgBuncrana GAA Club NotesBuncrana seniors played on Saturday night against local rivals Urris. A mixed squad went down to an enthusiastic Urris side fighting to remain in division three. Darrach O’Connor was in good form at centre half forward with Caolan McGonigle also adding in a good performance.Buncrana were penalised twice from the penalty spot resulting in two goals. In the end it was the visitors that ran out winners on a scoreline of 0-15 2-13. A well deserved 2 points for Urris. U16 HurlingThe U16 hurling season came to an end with a crushing extra time defeat to old foes St Eunans in the championship semi-final. The game itself was played in ideal conditions and no quarter was asked or given. Buncrana started the brighter, early points from Evan Mc Callion, Arron Craig and a Mattie Mullholland goal settled the Scarvey boys who lead at halftime by two points.St Eunan’s dominated the second half with the impressive Shane O Donnell a thorn in the Buncrana side, it was end to end with points from the O Doherty brothers Niall and Liam, Oisin Roe Doherty and Gavin Deehan. Arran Craig scored two brilliant goals to take the game to extra time. This was to prove a bridge too far for the Buncrana Boys, and St Eunans were deserving champions on a scoreline of 4-11 to 6-8.In defence, Matthew Wilson and David Carey where solid, at halfback the ever impressive John Vaughan excelled, Captain Niall O Doherty was a tower of strength throughout, himself playing with a serious facial injury received playing schools football on Tuesday. He was well supported by the industrious Oisin Roe and Gabhan Kelly.Tom Mc Laughlin was relentless and is probably one of the most naturally gifted hurlers in the club, and his tough no nonsense style of hurling can hopefully be built on and carried into minor and senior level. Arran Craig, himself only back from a serious back injury, was impressive but found the heavy schedule of games lately take their effect as it entered extra time. Evan Mc Callion has been a revelation this year, with pace to burn and a great attitude to match. The management would like to thank the boys for their efforts. Their behaviour on and off the field was excellent and a great bunch to manage. There wasn’t much between the sides all year and hopefully we will learn and come back stronger next year. The older members of this squad have an Ulster Minor Championship to look forward to, so their season is not over yet .Team: Daragh Doherty, Finn Mc Laughlin, Matthew Wilson, David Doherty, Cathal og Wilson, John Vaughan, Jason Mc Laughlin, Niall O Doherty (capt), Oisin Roe Doherty, Tom Mc Laughlin, Arran Craig, Gabhan Kelly, Liam O Doherty, Evan Mc Callion, Matthew Mullholland.
