From staff reports North Torrance overcame a strong effort from visiting Torrance to remain undefeated atop the Pioneer League girls volleyball standings with a 25-22, 25-21, 25-21 victory on Wednesday. “We played well enough to win – that is not what our goal is,” North coach Lawrence Hom. “I was expecting us to play a better match. They need to learn that teams are going to be playing hard against them.” Chelsea Tupuloa led Torrance (11-6, 3-2) with 11 kills, nine digs and two aces. Ilyanna Hernandez led North (16-3, 5-0) with 15 kills and seven digs. Kristin McNeese added seven kills and four blocks for North. Karin Ng added 30 assists. Girls tennis The doubles team of Ana Tatsuno and Lindsay Gerber swept its three sets to lead Peninsula (11-5, 3-2) to an 11-7 nonleague win at Marlborough (6-4, 3-0). Jacob Mark led El Segundo with three goals in an 8-6 Ocean League loss at Beverly Hills. Matt Kubeck had 11 saves for El Segundo (10-7, 3-3). Venice (258) took the the City 1 League match over LACES (292), Narbonne (310) and Palisades (342) at Rancho park. Debbie U led Narbonne with a 49. Boys water polo Girls golf JC women’s volleyball Lauren Simmons had 11 kills and 13 digs as El Camino defeated host L.A. Trade Tech in 30-14, 30-3, 30-11 South Coast Conference match.
