first_img Jack Wilshere 1 Arsenal have confirmed midfielder Jack Wilshere will undergo surgery and is facing a further three months out.The 23-year-old has been troubled with various injuries throughout his career and has not featured for the Gunners this season after suffering a harline fracture to his left leg.Arsene Wenger had been hoping he would return after the recent international break.But the England international has not recovered as expected and has now been told he requires an operation that is likely to rule him out until Christmas.“Due to a slow healing response from a fracture suffered in August, the club can confirm that Jack Wilshere is to undergo an operation to his left fibula,” read an Arsenal statement.“The decision to intervene has been taken quickly after regular reviews by specialists, who feel that Jack’s scans show that the healing process is not progressing as well as expected.“Jack will have surgery in London in the forthcoming days. This will involve inserting a small plate in his left fibula. Jack is likely to be out for approximately three months.“Everyone at the club wishes Jack well with his rehabilitation.”It is another devastating blow for Wilshere, who was initially only expected to be sidelined for a few weeks after suffering the injury in pre-season training.He made just 14 Premier League appearances last season with an ankle problem and only returned to action in May.He is now facing another extended spell on the sidelines and will miss a host of games for Arsenal, as well as England’s remaining European Championship qualifiers.last_img
